People who smoke are very well aware of all the hazardous effects to their health and a vast majority of them want to quit smoking but they do not have the will power to do so. Most smokers do not understand how to handle themselves after they have quit smoking. Many of them experience a lot of stress and fatigue apart from other symptoms like a cough and headache, constipation, lack of sleep, excess weight gain, anxiousness and anxiety along with anger and a craving for something. Sometimes these symptoms are too difficult to handle and they resort to smoking once again since they are unable to handle the pressure. Many people sometimes do not want to give up smoking since they feel that they cannot handle the pressure, which accompanies the process of quitting. Some of the devices and aids, which will help people who want to quit smoking, are:

Nicotine replacement therapy – People who smoke are usually addicted to the nicotine, which is present inside the cigarettes, and they feel very odd and unpleasant when they try to quit smoking. The process of nicotine replacement therapy involves providing the person with nicotine in a different form like a nicotine patch or nicotine chewing gum. But this will contain all the harm, which is present in the tobacco contained in cigarettes. Other devices, which are used during the course of this therapy, are nicotine tabs, lozenges, nicotine nasal spray as well as inhalators. They will help in providing a lot of relief to the person when he or she is trying to quit smoking. But since all these products contain a certain amount of nicotine, there is a slim chance that the person will get addicted to smoking once again.

Nicotine free quitting aids – Now plenty of aids are available which do not contain nicotine and which will help a person to quit smoking. But some of these might contain prescription drugs and they can only be taken after consulting a doctor. Zyban is one of the well known smoking aids which contain bupropion hydrochloride and this is prescribed in order to counter the depression which the person experiences while trying to quit smoking. Pfizer has developed another quitting aid, which is known as Chantix, and this was given approval by the food and drug administration or FDA in May 2006. This will help in reducing the pleasure, which a person derives when he is smoking.

Before starting the process of de addiction or quitting of smoking, the person should first make a string decision that he will definitely quit smoking despite all the obstacles, which are presenting themselves in front of him. A proper plan should be created and all members of the family and friends should also be made a part of the plan.
